Universe seems to have given me the answer to my question about work vs freedom vs money. Minimalism is the answer. You can aspire upwards – promotion, more money, more responsibility, more stress, expensive lifestyle. Or you can optimise downwards – living more with less. It’s the minimalist idea of ‘radical saving’ that I find most appealing – an idea that we should be saving way more of what we are making to ultimately give ourselves more options. Pete Adeney is one of the inspiring examples. In the talk above he explains what you need to do to retire in 10 years. My goal is more modest to begin with – hitting a household saving target of 15% of our income. As soon as I achieve that, I will aspire for 30%. Minimalism is the answer, folks.
